New York Triumphant!
Last night, the Giants showed New England who was boss, penetrating their line most of the game. Without further ado, then, are the new championship rankings for Super Bowls, Conference Titles and League Titles (top ten only):
By Appearance (Contenders):
Rank Team Appearances (wins)
1 Dallas 24 (13)
2 NY Giants 22 (10)
3 Green Bay 19 (13)
4 Pittsburgh 19 (11)
5 Oakland 19 (8)
6 San Francisco, Washington 17 (10) tie
8 St. Louis 17 (6)
9 Chicago 15 (9)
10 New England 14 (9) (Up from 12th, passing Denver and Cleveland)
By Victories (Champions):
Rank Team(s) Win-Loss
1 Green Bay 13-6
2 Dallas 13-11
3 Pittsburgh 11-8
4 San Francisco, Washington (tie) 10-7
6 New York 10-12 (up from 10th)
7 New England 9-5 (passes Chicago by winning AFC Title)
8 Chicago 9-6
9 Denver 8-6
10 Oakland 8-11
Note that most of the action, with the exception of the Chargers appearance in the AFC title, was among teams already in the top half of the rankings. Green Bay's loss in the title game did not change their position at the top of the trophey standings and their meer appearance helped them move up two places in that category.
That about wraps it up for this year.
